WBL: FAQs |
 |
Q: Is this Olympic Boxing?
A: No, this is professional team boxing and there are no amateur boxers.
Q: Will the boxers be rated by the current sanctioning bodies?
A: No. Because of the WBL patented structure with points, team standings and playoffs, there will be no need for boxers to be rated outside of the WBL.
Q: Will the WBL be a "Minor League" or "Farm System" for existing non-WBL boxing?
A: The short answer is "no." The WBL will not be a scaled down or inferior version of "old" boxing but instead an entirely new and different version of boxing, with more competitive bouts, fewer serious injuries, and far greater credibility and integrity. Current boxing consists of fewer than a dozen boxers who are well-known and well-paid and thousands of boxers who are unknown and barely paid. Most bouts in current boxing are arranged by the camp of the favorite against an opponent chosen because he has very little chance to win or even be competitive. While initially the WBL will not have the few highly-paid stars of current day boxing, the hundreds, and eventually thousands, of WBL bouts each year will, on balance, be a far superior version of boxing, and eventually, we believe will supplant the old, declining version of boxing.
Q: Will the boxers wear head gear?
A: No, however boxer safety is of paramount concern to the league.
Q: How long will the bouts be?
A: Five three-minute rounds.
Q: What is the scoring methodology?
A: See How It Works.
Q: Where and how will WBL teams find their boxers?
A: There are many thousands of boxers in North America scraping by financially and looking for work. All but about the top five to ten in each weight class would be extremely excited about signing with a WBL team. Once the formation of the WBL and the sale of the teams is publicized, the word will spread extremely rapidly, and we believe teams will be flooded with applications to come to tryouts. In addition, there are numerous sources for finding boxers and detailed information about them. In short, finding boxers will not be a problem. Teams will have the luxury of choosing among several very talented boxers in each weight class.
Q: What is open scoring?
A: Fans will know at the end of each round the points awarded by each judge for each boxer.
